Thyroid Disease

Thyroid disease is very common in every population and encompasses a diverse range of pathologies. However, the initial patient evaluation is relatively straightforward and easily obtained, making it realistic to appropriately refer a patient to a thyroid surgeon when necessary. This chapter will cover benign goiter, hyperthyroidism, concern for malignancy, and thyroiditis, along with the indications for surgical referral and appropriate pre-referral workup for each condition.
