University higher education requires the development of competencies in theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and social values, knowing how to be and knowing how to behave (attitudes and values of social and cultural influence) in the training of future engineering professionals, so the study aims to validate traditional ethnomathematics through practical applications in the teaching of civil engineering. In this work, it is argued how practical and theoretical criteria can be generated in search of existing information in the local reality, identifying empirical constructive parameters applied in the construction of the houses called Putuco to validate the theoretical and practical knowledge of the native people through the praxeological analysis and the participation of traditional teachers as informants, with which we can identify the stages of construction developed in an empirical way, emphasizing the validation of the covert practical mathematical knowledge, which we call traditional ethnomathematics, laying the foundations for the engineering design that escapes the regulation but very necessary in the construction of traditional houses as didactic proposals. The practical implications of research integrates the use of empirical mathematics in everyday life, so the study of engineering should incorporate these sociocultural approaches to enrich learning and professional practice.
