Social Entrepreneurship is a Green Economy for Poverty Alleviation Solutions in Indonesia

Poverty alleviation in Indonesia is closely related to the global goal of zero poverty by 2030. The government’s commitment to overcoming poverty in Indonesia is manifested in various policies. In 2022–2023, the Indonesian government will implement a social entrepreneurship program called the “Pahlawan Ekonomi Nusantara (PENA) to reduce poverty. This program increases the business capabilities of prospective entrepreneurs from low-income families who benefit from the social assistance program to improve their welfare. Data on program implementation was obtained using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The research locations were Lebak Regency, Majalengka Regency, Malang Regency, and Brebes Regency. The research results show that efforts to improve the community’s economy can be realized in several strategic steps, including social empowerment oriented towards economic improvement. People can achieve a prosperous life, one of which is through entrepreneurial activities. Apart from reducing the burden of expenditure, a vital poverty reduction strategy is to increase income. Plans to increase revenue can include increasing access to capital, improving product quality and marketing access, developing business skills and services, and developing entrepreneurship, partnerships and intermediation. This book chapter’s novelty is the state’s entrepreneurship program to overcome poverty using income-generation strategies.
