Phalloplasty provides the most comprehensive option for total phallic reconstruction. Once the neophallus is formed, the final stage procedure usually involves insertion of a penile prosthesis (PP) or more correctly “erectile device” to enable rigidity for penetrative sexual intercourse. Options for PP include malleable penile prostheses (MPP) and inflatable penile prostheses (IPP), each with their comparative benefits and risks. PP insertion in phalloplasty is more challenging than in the native penis and higher complication rates are seen.
