Patient Selection and Counseling: Patient Optimization Prior to Prosthetic Surgery
摘要
Prosthetics have been paramount in restoring genitourinary function and optimizing quality of life in patients with stress urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Artificial urethral sphincters (AUS) are well-established surgical options in restoring continence in men with severe stress urinary incontinence (SUI); as are penile prostheses (PP) in the surgical management of erectile dysfunction (ED). There are roughly 25,000 PP placed in the United States per year, and 11,500 AUS placements worldwide. Most contemporary series reporting outcomes for each of these prosthetic interventions boast excellent success and satisfaction.
