Penile prostheses are the best management option for medically refractory erectile dysfunction. Substantial improvements in inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) infection control have been made since the inception of these devices, including infection retardant coatings, surgical technique advancements, and infection management strategies. Infections now occur in a small percentage of primary cases, with increased risk of infection during revision surgeries. In this article we review IPP infection in detail, including the diagnosis, prevention, and management of this devastating complication.
