Complications of penile prosthesis implantation surgery have been the focus of universal efforts aimed at mitigating their incidence, with improvements in implant design, standardizing the procedure, shortening operative time, training surgeons and the assisting staff. Intraoperative complications include distal or proximal perforation, urethral injury, crossing-over, and cutting through the prosthesis metallic core in special circumstances. Postoperative complications include infection, super-sonic transporter (SST) deformity, tissue devascularization or denervation, extrusion whether distal or proximal, implant rod fracture, and chronic pain syndrome. Dissatisfaction with post-implantation penile size may be considered and handled as a complication.
