Addressing the Convergence of the Internet of Things and the Metaverse: Potential Opportunities and Consequences

Two rapidly advancing technologies can potentially shape our digital landscape’s future. The technologies under question include the Internet of Things (IoT) and the metaverse. IoT, an abbreviation for the Internet of Things, refers to a network of interconnected physical devices, vehicles, structures, and other objects linked to the internet that can collect and transmit data. Conversely, the metaverse is a realm where individuals may cooperate and digitalize through real-time communication. This research project examines the intersection between the Internet of Things (IoT) and the metaverse, along with the challenges arising from their confluence. We will examine how the Internet of Things devices may be integrated into the metaverse to provide users with innovative and immersive experiences. Additionally, we will explore the potential applications and benefits of this technology across other domains, including healthcare, teaching, and entertaining. Moreover, we will review the numerous ethical, privacy, and security implications associated with the utilization of Internet of Things devices inside the metaverse. A literature review and case study analysis are both key components in the survey process. This review will elucidate the potential impacts of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the metaverse on society while also aiding in the advancement of future technology in this domain.
