Control of Study Program Content Changes Using Structural Modelling Methods
摘要
This paper addresses the research question – How can we assist academic staff and study program directors in maintaining the aim of the study program while implementing changes to its content? Sooner or later, every study program director faces a situation when it is necessary to change the content of the study program - to remove a course from the program content and add a new course instead, or when the course instructor wants to change the content of a course in the study program. Changing the content of a study program or a course is a natural process. The content of a study program or course may undergo adjustments, reflecting the dynamic nature of professional standards and the evolving demands of the labour market. When we make some changes in study program curricula, it is very important to make it in accordance with the purpose of the study program. It is essential to remember that the learning outcomes of individual study courses contribute to achieving the overall learning outcomes of the study program, thereby fulfilling its primary aim. Consequently, it is crucial to ensure that any modifications to the study program or course curricula align with and support the achievement of all program outcomes. To control the changes that are made in the content of the study program and the content of the study course, the authors suggest using structure analysis with the method of structural modelling - the calculation of ranks. Through a practical example, the authors illustrate how rank calculation can be utilized to preserve the quality of the study program content when implementing modifications.
