Gamifying Knowledge Management Systems in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises: Development and Validation of a Data Collection Tool
摘要
The efficient utilization of human capital within organizations to foster innovation and problem-solving is crucial for long-term organizational performance. Knowledge management practices serve as internal mechanisms to facilitate learning and employee engagement, thereby promoting the generation of new ideas, processes, and solutions. This study aims to develop a data collection tool that acknowledges the significance of gamification in knowledge management processes, particularly in addressing the challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in motivating knowledge sharing among employees. Through the Delphi method, a panel of experts in gamification and knowledge management systems contributed to the development of the tool over three rounds. The study considered two major dimensions: knowledge management system enablers, encompassing leadership, organizational culture and structure, and information technologies, and gamification elements that can enhance knowledge management systems, such as game dynamics and mechanics. The primary contribution of this study lies in the refinement of a Conceptual Model of Analysis of the Contribution of Gamification to Knowledge Management Systems in SMEs and the development and validation of a new tool to assess the role of gamification in fostering a knowledge-oriented culture and structure, promoting trust, collaboration, learning, and employee motivation and involvement. However, limitations include challenges in recruiting experts and ensuring their participation in each round, as well as the pioneering nature of the tool, which necessitates further testing in diverse gamified knowledge management system contexts.
