The knowledge about CTX and the specialized care for CTX patients in the Netherlands was build up from the late 1980 onwards, primarily from within the Radboud University hospital in Nijmegen. We describe the history of the expertise in CTX in the Netherlands and the characteristics of the Dutch patient cohort, as well as the circumstances that led to the magistral formulation of CDCA, with which all Dutch patients are currently treated.
