The patient’s viewpoint on health care frequently clashes with the structures of the modern medical system and the health care environment. While generally healthy individuals may be sufficiently cared for within this system, those with complex medical needs often are left confused and encounter many barriers when navigating the specialty-oriented health care. This challenge is particularly true in the case of patients with skeletal dysplasia, where the shortcomings of a multi-specialty-centric approach may often result in less-than-optimal care. To ensure the provision of high-quality care, adopting a team-based, multidisciplinary approach is essential. Not only does this strategy benefit patients directly, but it also alleviates the burden on health care providers.
