Navigating an Anesthesiology Department and Finding the Care You Need: Patient Perspective
摘要
Patients with skeletal dysplasia have complex medical conditions and require experienced and skilled anesthesia personnel to care for them when needing anesthesia or sedation. The structure and function of an anesthesia department varies dramatically from other specialties; specifically, anesthesiology takes a team approach to patient care. In other words, a patient may seek a particular surgeon for their surgical needs, but their anesthesiologist is often assigned to care for them with no prior contact. This model of care works well and provides quality care in most situations except in cases where familiarity with a particular patient’s anesthetic difficulties is important in delivering safe care and a successful outcome.
