Ultrasound provides easy access and ease of use for visualization of structures. In pelvic floor ultrasound imaging, the functionality of structures visualized has traditionally been augmented with digital pelvic floor examination. New modalities such as elastography, shear wave elastography, acoustic radiation force impulse, photoacoustic imaging, and vaginal tactile imaging have the potential to provide additional insight into the functionality of the pelvic floor.
