Design Science Research (DSR) increasingly addresses complex socio-technical challenges that require effective collaboration among diverse stakeholders. While trust is recognized as fundamental to successful collaboration, there is limited understanding of how trust mechanisms operate specifically within DSR contexts. This study addresses this gap through a two-phase investigation. First, we examine collaboration drivers in DSR through a survey of practitioners (n = 21), revealing that knowledge exchange predominates over artifact development as a primary motivation. Second, we conduct a systematic mapping study identifying 32 distinct trust-building mechanisms. The framework is empirically validated with the DESRIST community, demonstrating that interpersonal factors (such as honesty and consistent communication) are more crucial than institutional mechanisms in building trust within DSR. This research contributes to both the theoretical understanding of trust development in DSR and practical guidance for researchers managing DSR projects.
