Fear of Missing Out and the Future of Facial Recognition Payments in the Blue Economy
摘要
This chapter explored financial technology's theoretical foundations within the Blue Economy, particularly emphasizing the user acceptance of Facial Recognition Payment Systems (FRPS). Biometric payment systems offer robust security, great convenience, and a more sustainable payment method, as they eliminate the need for physical payment cards made of PVC and other plastic materials that can drastically pollute our water resources. We extended the technology acceptance model with a cognitive bias to better understand its influence on the user acceptance of FRPS. This study aimed to develop a novel theoretical framework that identifies the key constructs impacting users’ intention to use FRPS. Additionally to the components of the technology acceptance model, this study also posited the significant influence of cognitive bias in adopting this emerging technology in the burgeoning FinTech sector. The findings emphasized the role of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, anticipated regret, social comparison and counterfactual thinking in predicting user behavior to use a specific technology. The findings are critical for decision-makers and industry stakeholders in the Blue Economy.
