The 2022 Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is among the most important pieces of climate legislation ever and delivered on Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign promises. This chapter explains how the passage of the IRA may have contributed to the disappearance of climate change as a salient political issue in the 2024 campaign, even as climate change has become a more visible and salient issue over time. The future politicization of climate change depends strongly on how effectively President Trump unravels the Inflation Reduction Act during his next term.
