Ghost in the Machine: Television Memory, Grief, and Catharsis in Disney+’s WandaVision
摘要
This chapter analyses empathy through the representation of memory, grief, and catharsis in WandaVision (Disney+, 2021). Through a close textual analysis of the series, this chapter asks what it means for us to engage with Wanda’s vision, which not only exists outside of or beyond phallocentric modes of vision but also operates within a particular kind of televisual nostalgia that is expressed through its intertextual appropriation of television’s past. The chapter argues that the show’s televisuality intensifies our emotional connection to Wanda, which in turn amplifies the comforting and cathartic experience of the series.
