Digital technologies are rapidly reshaping industries and societies, providing both a new set of opportunities and challenges for sustainable growth. In this chapter, we posit that economic development can no longer be modelled separately from our stewardship of the environment, making economic growth and digital sustainability inextricably linked. The chapter examines how digital applications can make resource use more efficient, lower carbon footprints and enable sustainable businesses. It cites cases of organizations, which have successfully executed a strategy of digital sustainability and how they drive innovation and competitiveness alongside other pressing environmental priorities. The chapter shows the different forms of compromises that may likely happen between radical growth in terms of economics versus sustainable practices it points out critical barriers that organizations have to overcome when their growth strategy is compatible with the requirements of sustainability, such as regulatory hurdles, technological constraints, and cultural changes. The rationale of this chapter is to provide actionable insights and recommendations to policymakers, business leaders, and researchers to face the evident challenges posed by economic growth and digital sustainability.

摘要
