This chapter focuses on how the world emerges from the global economic and ecological challenges, it assesses how net zero ambitions and digital sustainability could intertwine in emerging economies, especially considering the role of digital technologies to foster space for sustainable interventions, but also as a key towards climate change mitigation. How digital tools are being woven into sustainability initiatives presents unique opportunities and challenges for countries targeting net zero emissions. This chapter is a critical analysis of successful projects applying digital technologies (to drive energy efficiency, resource utilization, and stakeholder engagement) within the areas of water, agriculture, and urban planning. It discusses how smart technologies, data analytics, and IoT applications are not only promoting decision-making processes but also modernizing operations that will eventually help achieve net zero targets. The chapter outlines the importance of promoting inclusive access to such technologies across the developing world, so that all societies may benefit from their digital sustainability efforts. Drawing on case studies, the chapter proffers practical recommendations for policymakers and practitioners regarding how to best reconcile net zero ambitions with digital innovation in the interest of resilient and sustainable development in the Global South.

摘要
