This chapter uses a lot of different pieces of writing and policy documents from around the world and other countries to give a broad picture of the social and economic impacts of relying less on oil on communities and economies in cities. It also looks at how people are trying to become less dependent on oil and move toward more stable, diverse economic models. It also talks about the environmental problems and chances that come up because of this change. Azerbaijan’s narrative is examined within the broader context of global energy transitions and its post-Soviet history, highlighting the interconnectedness of energy systems, urban development, and geopolitics. Policy and planning approaches for managing the shift toward post-oil futures are examined, focusing on how state policies and educational reforms position the nation to harness renewable energy, support green innovation, build capacity, and foster resilient economic structures.
