This chapter highlights the positive strides Sierra Leone has made in digitalization, particularly in government operations and digital financial services (DFS). Digitalization has significantly improved efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness in public financial management, as well as enhanced service delivery in critical sectors such as health, education, and agriculture. Additionally, the wider adoption of DFS has the potential to further increase payment ease and speed while also enhancing financial inclusion across the country. However, despite these promising developments, several challenges must be addressed to accelerate digitalization. These include low quality of service, legal and regulatory hurdles, limited private sector participation, a shortage of adequate IT skills, and the absence of supportive infrastructure.
