Sustaining the Quality of E-Learning in Trying Educational Climates
摘要
The need to mitigate the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic while continuing to educate students led to the rapid adoption of remote and online education platforms (e-learning). This move was not without challenges, one of which is sustaining the quality of teaching and learning. To enhance and sustain online teaching and learning quality during these challenging times, it is essential to explore and re-imagine strategies for using educational technology. Reflecting on our experiences, we adopted the community of practice model to deconstruct and analyze two professional development events using the qualitative research method. We then proposed a framework for enhancing and sustaining the quality of e-learning in challenging educational landscapes. We also developed qualitative themes and supporting vignettes to deepen our discussion about the framework’s relevance. Encapsulated in the framework is an enabling environment by institutional leadership, diagnostic feedback, active learning, convergent and divergent thought activities, regular constructive feedback, and evaluation for learning. We conclude that educators must constantly evaluate the framework’s application for learning, examine necessary improvements in learning spaces, and advance their professional practices and students’ learning.
