The inception of environmental movements is explained. Changing definitions and influencing factors in these movements are addressed considering a historical trajectory of evolution and transformation of movements since the nineteenth century to twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The birth of environmental awareness, rising concerns about nature, and the formation of environmental movement organizations are explained respectively.
