In the apparel supply chain, cotton farmers at the top of the chain bear the greatest burden. To address the issue of farmer suicides caused by debt from non-organic cotton cultivation and promote the adoption of organic farming, support for conversion to organic methods is being advocated. There are also efforts to increase consumer ethical awareness. However, the effectiveness and sustainability of these promotional strategies have not been thoroughly examined. This study develops a system dynamics model based on a fact-finding survey conducted in India. Simulation results using this model reveal that the problem cannot be sustainably resolved by solely continuing current initiatives. Moreover, the study demonstrates that a simultaneous, gradual approach to implementing support for transition and raising consumer awareness could offer a long-term and sustainable solution to this problem.

摘要
