Risk communication is an essential component of security management, as it affects the way in which individuals and organisations perceive and respond to threats. This chapter investigates the transition of risk communication from a one-way dissemination paradigm to an interactive, engagement-driven approach. It examines critical theoretical frameworks, such as the Information Deficit Model, the Mental Models Approach, and the Cultural Cognition Framework, which elucidate the manner in which cognitive, social, and cultural factors influence risk perceptions. The chapter also discusses the influence of media and technology on risk narratives, underscoring the necessity of communication strategies that are inclusive, transparent, and trustworthy.
