Vertiports in urban regions face space constraints, making precision landing technologies essential for safe urban air mobility (UAM). The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has recently released a new symbol for vertiport identification. However, comprehensive research on using this symbol for accurate UAM vehicle landings is lacking. To address this research gap, our study proposes a vision-based detection system specifically designed to identify the FAA vertiport marking. This system recognizes the vertiport marking, estimates the relative position and attitude by geometric transformation, and visualizes the pose estimation results using instruments similar to the instrument landing system. Results show the applicability of the proposed approach under UAM’s operating conditions.

摘要
