UAS Communication Links and Protocols Analysis to Ensure Wind Information Obtaining and Exchange
摘要
Operative meteorological information plays an important role for safety and efficiency of aircraft flights including the flights of unmanned aerial vehicles. At the same time, the UAVs can serve as instruments to obtain actual information about atmospheric state and weather phenomena in the area of flight. The collected real-time information can be shared and used to provide operative meteorological support of flights and UAV-based missions. In this paper we consider the modern communication links and protocols to provide weather-related information and further transmit or exchange between UAV operators or wider customers of weather information. An overview of the modern communication links and protocols was done. The detailed study to extract wind information was done using the MAVLink messaging protocol as it is open and one of the most popular and is supported by many unmanned aerial vehicle control platforms. It was shown that considered instruments allow to extract of information about wind speed and wind direction and match this information with horizontal and vertical coordinates. The obtained information can be shared between the interested UAV operators used in autopilots of UAVs for flight trajectory correction.
