The tropical coastal wetland of “La Segua”, located in the province of Manabí, Ecuador, is an area that exhibits a range of ecological stressors arising from climate change and anthropogenic activities. The primary objective of this research was to explore the condition of the ecosystem by employing a multivariate study that included Spearman correlations, biplots, and hierarchical dendrograms. A total of 35 sampling units were studied, where, during a multi-focal workshop with the community, dominant variables were selected, such as the wetland’s sensitivity level, the intensity of environmental impacts produced by different categories of activities, and protection practices. According to the assessment, 45.27% of the wetland is highly sensitive, 30.62% is moderately sensitive, and 24.11% of the wetland’s ecological state is in optimal condition. The involvement of the local community, especially women, becomes a socio-environmental strategy for protecting the wetland. The findings lead to the recommendation of implementing adaptive management practices that would reduce pressures on sensitive areas and expand resilient sites as a protection approach to ensure the sustainability and biodiversity of the La Segua wetland under a climate change scenario.
