Cycling is increasingly recognized as a sustainable mode of urban transportation due to its environmental, health, and economic benefits. However, the safety of cyclists remains a significant challenge in mixed traffic conditions where motorized and non-motorized vehicles coexist on inadequately segregated roadways. Developing safer and more effective urban mobility solutions requires an understanding of the factors influencing bicycle rides in mixed-traffic situations. This study investigates the main factors influencing bicycle behaviour, such as demographical factors, environmental factors, traffic patterns and factors, and infrastructure. The results shed light on how to increase cyclist safety and successfully incorporate bicycles into mixed traffic systems. The study findings underline the importance of integrating cycling into urban planning frameworks, not only to enhance safety but also to support environmental sustainability and public health. By encouraging cycling as a primary mode of transportation, cities can reduce traffic congestion, lower emissions, and promote healthier lifestyles. The study advocates for future research to explore innovative, inclusive solutions—such as smart technologies and equitable infrastructure to create urban environments where cycling is safe, accessible, and integral to daily life.
