Lignin-Based Hydrogels for Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Applications
摘要
Lignin, a renewable and abundant biopolymer derived from plant cell walls, has gained attention for its remarkable mechanical strength, biocompatibility, and inherent antioxidant properties. The synthesis of lignin-based hydrogels involves the integration of lignin with other polymers or crosslinkers, resulting in versatile and tunable materials. These hydrogels exhibit excellent water retention capacity, swelling behaviour, and controlled release properties, making them promising candidates for drug delivery systems. Additionally, the inherent biodegradability of lignin-based hydrogels aligns with the increasing demand for sustainable and eco-friendly materials in the biomedical field. The antioxidant properties of lignin further contribute to their potential application in wound healing and tissue engineering. This abstract highlights the recent advancements in the development of lignin-based hydrogels, emphasizing their unique characteristics and the potential for addressing current challenges in pharmaceutical and biomedical applications, ranging from drug delivery systems to tissue engineering scaffolds. This chapter presents a comprehensive overview of the emerging field of lignin-based hydrogels and their potential applications in pharmaceutical and biomedical contexts.
