Burke provides an insightful discussion on the psychological perspectives that have driven most research and practice on organizational and safety climate over the last 30-plus years. In doing so, he uniquely discusses the related and complementary nature of organizational and safety climate. This discussion includes arguments and evidence for why organizational climate and safety climate can be studied or evaluated in practice along core, generalizable dimensions at the individual or workgroup levels. A concluding feature of this chapter is a critical commentary on practices advocated in the literature for determining whether to aggregate climate data to evaluate its impact at the workgroup level.
