Based on the major tenets of these theories, Burke presents a set of learning principles that can enhance safety knowledge and skill development, retention, and transfer. Importantly, he looks at the ways learning principles have been incorporated into common safety training methods and how they can be best applied. A notable feature is that he provides concise examples of how learning principles have been employed in the design and delivery of lecture and discussion, video-based, positive reinforcement and feedback, behavioral modeling, computer-based, virtual and augmented reality, serious games, and hands-on safety training. These examples include applications in organizations in low- to high-income countries.
