Introduction
摘要
This introduction presents the central animating questions of the book: How should we defend abortion rights specifically and reproductive freedom more generally now that Roe v. Wade has fallen? Was the decision to ground abortion rights on a constitutional right to privacy in Roe a terrible mistake that impoverished the pro-choice movement in its aftermath? What lessons can we learn from the privacy v. equality debates that erupted in feminist circles after Roe? The introduction foreshadows the answers to come: Rather than choosing between a privacy and equality rationale for abortion rights, the two can work together and strengthen each other as the basis for a powerful movement not only to restore abortion rights but also to secure a far more capacious reproductive justice. This exploration is especially important in a moment where reproductive politics have taken center stage in the United States.
