This chapter focuses on the significance of New Testament Ethics to debates about ozone layer depletion and its impact on the African continent. Globally, there are concerns on chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) affecting the ozone layer and efforts are being made to reduce the use of polluting gases. The research gap that this chapter tries to fill is the lack of coherent arguments from secular ethical theories in addressing ozone layer depletion. While secular ethical theories such as deontological, virtue, utilitarian and Ubuntu ethical theories have attempted to address environmental concerns in general, their approaches fail to sufficiently address the ozone layer depletion as a result of anthropocentric environmental concerns. In this chapter, I will argue that New Testament Ethics provides transcendental Ethics that is both prophetic and global in appeal, thereby positioning itself well above secular moral theories in addressing ozone layer depletion. New Testament Ethics is significant in addressing environmental injustice that arises out of the use of CFC gases. African countries are on the receiving end given that the consequences of ozone layer depletion are more severe in Africa yet the cause of such depletion is largely in the Global North.
