Climate and its variability have been diagnosed as the major challenge for agricultural production over the globe. However, the recent events of weather extremes have shocked not only the planners but also the climate modelers. It has become more problematic for seasonal forecasters to precisely predict the outlook. The agricultural crops and orchards are merely exposed to bear the major damage. Importantly, the farmers of developing countries remained the most vulnerable due to their unawareness and lack of modern technologies. To deal and minimize the major losses imposed by the weather extremes, the crop scientists have put tremendous efforts and got success up to some extents. But the protection and sustainability of supporting material particularly the water availability has still been prone to erratic weather. Crop water requirement has already been ignited by global warming, especially over the tropical–extratropical regions. Chief amount of cereals and fruit has been cultivated through irrigated farming (like in south Asia), which involves a big cost. In the present era of scientific revolution, justified and smart utility of water may be achieved through innovative programs. Impact-based forecasting is an emerging field and capable to assist the farming community in smart cultivation practices. Now the international agencies have got aware of the issues and playing supportive roles to manage the farm-level practices. As a pilot, one of such projects has successfully been completed for a small region of Pakistan. However, it requires a good chemistry between the stakeholders including the weather forecasters, agriculture organizations, etc., and the end-users. Above all, an accurate forecast, its timely dissemination, and active participation of agricultural community could help improve the prevailing situation.
