Effective management of on-farm water resources is critical for sustainable agriculture, particularly in regions facing water scarcity and climate variability. This chapter examines various initiatives and strategies aimed at optimizing water use efficiency in agricultural practices, with a focus on international organizations. Key interventions include the adoption of advanced irrigation technologies such as drip and sprinkler systems, the rehabilitation and enhancement of irrigation infrastructure, and the promotion of climate-smart agricultural practices. These efforts are supported by collaborative projects like the Punjab Resilient and Inclusive Agriculture Transformation (PRIAT) and the National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses in Pakistan (Phase-II). Such initiatives not only aim to increase agricultural productivity and profitability but also enhance resilience to climate change impacts. Moreover, The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the CGIAR Research Program on Water, Land and Ecosystems (WLE) are international organizations and research institutions that prioritize the advancement and advocacy of inventive approaches to water management. Their work is essential for attaining sustainable water utilization through the integration of scientific research, policy formulation, and practical implementation tactics. These organizations engage in study to comprehend water-related challenges, such as scarcity, pollution, and the effects of climate change. They also devise technology and strategies to tackle these problems. Their endeavors are directed on enhancing agricultural output, while simultaneously protecting ecosystems, improving livelihoods, and ensuring water security for communities worldwide.
