People are not powerless in the face of collective irrationality, or authoritarian strongmen who promote and come to power through collective irrationality. The global spread of the environmental movement and green industry is evidence of this. In this chapter a number of solutions are discussed, to lower the probability of collective irrationality coming about. These solutions include giving priority to changing contextual conditions, to coopting elites, and to achieving better education and civic engagement among ordinary people so they more fully understand and can cope with collective irrationality.
