Encased in an extracellular matrix, bacterial biofilms are intricate communities of diverse microorganisms that form conditioning films on a substrate. Biofilm formation involves several processes, and biofilms are a pertinent factor contributing to the persistence of bacterial infections and major treatment issues. They pose a serious threat to international health since they can show heightened resistance to traditional antibiotics and transmit illness through intramedical devices and biological infections. Therefore, in order to treat and reduce diseases linked to biofilms, early detection, along with consideration of novel and alternative therapies is crucial. In this chapter, we looked at the history of microbial biofilms, related infections, detection methods, and possible treatment approaches. This was done to give researchers the most up-to-date information on how to find and deal with bacterial biofilms.
