ESP32-Based System for Temperature and Humidity Monitoring in an Electronic Devices Storeroom

The proper storage and handling of electronic components are paramount to preserve their lifespan and functionality. Moisture is a critical factor that can significantly affect the performance and reliability of such components if not efficiently monitored. This chapter presents a comprehensive solution for monitoring and managing moisture levels within an enclosed storeroom using the ESP32 microcontroller coupled with high-precision temperature and humidity sensors. Being equipped with Wi-Fi capabilities, the ESP32 microcontroller allows for real-time data acquisition and remote monitoring. The temperature and humidity sensors provide accurate and continuous measurements of the environmental conditions within the storeroom. The collected data points are analyzed in real time to assess the risk of moisture exposure to the electronic devices. This work is completed through the development and integration of the hardware and software architecture of the ESP32-based monitoring system, the integration of the temperature and humidity sensor, the data transmission, and the data storage. Additionally, the system issues timely alerts when the environmental conditions exceed predefined thresholds, thus enabling prompt corrective actions. The outcome of this work is a prototype embedding the features of keeping track and record of humidity and temperature levels as well as sending notifications to the person in charge when defined thresholds have been exceeded. In conclusion, this work offers a comprehensive solution to safeguard electronic components by monitoring and managing moisture levels in an enclosed storeroom. The integration of the ESP32 microcontroller, the temperature and humidity sensors, coupled with real-time data analysis and alerts, creates a robust and cost-effective system for preserving the integrity and functionality of electronic devices. The proposed product can be an asset for electronic component storage facilities and manufacturers aiming to maintain high-quality standards and reduce the risk of moisture-related damages.
