This chapter explores the event from which this phenomenon of diaspora communities exercising soft power became associated with the Indian American networking/strategic elites. It explores the different junctures of the nuclear deal negotiations in which the Indian American networking/strategic elites participated in varying capacities. The assembly of the networking/strategic elites is deconstructed to understand what made them a team, and led them to rise above various sub-identity factors. It analyses their advocacy strategies to persuade congressmen and, in this process, how they exercised soft power. But were the Indian American networking/strategic elites the only actors behind the success of the deal? Or was it the case that their contribution only eased the passage of the deal?
