In contemporary world history, the end of the Cold War is a milestone. It had reverberations across the world and at multiple levels. This globalized age was led by a neoliberal world order and capitalist forces, which required economies to grow, and for which they developed alliances with various states. International migration also gained momentum, resulting in increased remittance flows in many cases; this, in turn, caused states to rethink their policies toward diasporas. Two developments that directly impacted the Indian American community were: (a) the growing interest of American corporates in India; and (b) changes in India’s diaspora policy. This chapter explores and analyses these transitions and how they impacted the Indian American community’s ability to exercise soft power.

摘要
