Introduction
摘要
This chapter introduces the phenomenon of soft power exercised by diasporas, a phenomenon which is explored in detail later in this study. It explains the purpose of the study within the context of Indian Americans, the primary research question, subsequent questions, and the objectives of the study. This chapter examines the existing literature about the concepts involved in the study and explains how viewing diasporas as a source of soft power exercised by “networking/strategic elites” represents a shift in conceptual thinking. This view departs from traditional foreign policymaking practices and challenges traditional disciplinary boundaries, as the concepts involved are scattered across multiple social science disciplines. It is for this reason that the study adopts an interdisciplinary approach.
