How to Write Socially
摘要
Struggling with writing is a common experience for academics in medicine. Conceiving of writing as a social activity—a way to come together with friends and colleagues in a mutually productive way—is one method of making writing more enjoyable. This chapter provides practical ideas and advice to make writing a social activity. Three straightforward ways to make writing a social activity include setting up writing dates, establishing informal writing sessions or meetings, and starting more formal writing groups or seminars. A key aspect of making writing social is to recognize that this can be done without a “teacher.” Whether consisting of faculty or trainees, a writing group can become a powerful and meaningful way to connect with one another while simultaneously promoting the productivity of its members.
