Providing learners with effective feedback and creating a feedback-rich culture is an essential component of medical education. Feedback provides learners with information that can help them improve their clinical skills. This chapter reviews why feedback is important, feedback barriers, the characteristics of effective feedback, and the importance of relationship-centered feedback. Two frameworks for giving effective feedback (ADAPT and R2C2) are described along with approaches to challenging feedback situations. The chapter concludes by reviewing best practices for completing end-of-course/rotation evaluations that summarize learners’ performance.

摘要

Providing learners with effective feedback and creating a feedback-rich culture is an essential component of medical education. Feedback provides learners with information that can help them improve their clinical skills. This chapter reviews why feedback is important, feedback barriers, the characteristics of effective feedback, and the importance of relationship-centered feedback. Two frameworks for giving effective feedback (ADAPT and R2C2) are described along with approaches to challenging feedback situations. The chapter concludes by reviewing best practices for completing end-of-course/rotation evaluations that summarize learners’ performance.
