Congenital triangular alopecia, also known as temporal triangular alopecia, is a circumscribed, nonprogressive, and non-scarring form of alopecia. It presents as triangular-, oval-, or lancet-shaped patches of alopecia involving unilaterally or, less frequently, bilaterally the frontotemporal areas of the scalp. Rare is the occurrence over other scalp areas. The skin of the affected areas is normal in appearance with no atrophy, scarring, or inflammation. Dermatoscopy allows the visualization of a carpet of short vellus hairs as well as normal follicular openings.
