Restoring Trust in Drugs
摘要
The growing mistrust toward drugs stems from misinformation and societal risk aversion, despite their proven benefits. Public skepticism is fueled by amplified rumors about side effects and historical drug crises. Addressing unfounded fears and improving public perception requires a factual understanding of the benefit-risk ratio of drugs, emphasizing their therapeutic benefits. Patients must also be better informed that rigorous monitoring during clinical trials and post-marketing, alongside strengthened pharmacovigilance, is implemented to ensure drug safety. Vaccine hesitancy refers to the growing rejection of vaccines despite their proven benefits. This mistrust is fueled by misconceptions and misinformation, leading to decreased vaccination rates and the resurgence of preventable diseases. Addressing vaccine hesitancy requires public health policies that reinforce vaccination obligations and combat misconceptions to ensure herd immunity and protect public health. More generally, technological innovation, while creating wealth, poses ethical and societal challenges necessitating a balance between innovation and precaution. Responsible innovation, emphasizing international rules and taking into account potential long-term effects, seeks this balance. Transparency and education, as well as restoring scientific authority, are crucial for public trust and the acceptance of new technologies.
