High-tech Drugs Against COVID-19
摘要
This chapter examines the rapid development of high-tech drugs and vaccines against COVID-19, highlighting the technological revolution in biology and medicine permitted by the synergy between biotechnologies and artificial intelligence. The WHO declared the end of the global health emergency on May 5, 2023, following a pandemic that began in late 2019. This chapter discusses the pandemic’s impact, revealing vulnerabilities in health systems, the importance of digital transformation, and the geopolitical implications of pharmaceutical dependence. It emphasizes the lessons learned, including the need for global coordination, equitable access to care, and preparedness for future health crises. The synergy of biotechnologies, nanotechnologies, and artificial intelligence facilitated the unprecedented speed of vaccine development, showcasing humanity’s potential to respond to health emergencies. The chapter concludes with reflections on the importance of collaboration and innovation in addressing future global health challenges. It also discusses the need to address the growing distrust in public opinion toward public health measures and vaccines by fighting against irrationality and disinformation.
