Wellness and Our Humanity: Mind, Body, and Soul
摘要
There are many paths to becoming the best version of ourselves, but in all cases creating our best self requires a sense of wholeness and a perception that all parts of ourselves are working in harmony. We will start by discussing our spiritual selves and move to a topic that many people don’t think much about—our experience of pain and how we cope with suffering. Then we will end with how our intellectual wellness enriches our life and how we produce great things through human creativity and ingenuity. Spiritual wellness can be defined as uniting our sense of our life’s meaning and purpose with our morality to guide our choices and behaviors. Spiritual well-being can be enhanced by practices such as praying, gratitude, compassion, and lovingkindness. On the other hand, a significant source of stress and reduction of subjective feelings of wellness occurs around illness and pain. From a mind-body perspective, we can do a lot with our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors to decrease our suffering, such as mindfulness, physical and psychological therapy, and drug or nondrug treatments of pain. Finally, intellectual wellness is a facet of overall wellness that includes creativity, ingenuity, curiosity, problem-solving, reasoning, and an openness to intellectual growth, expanding knowledge, and new experiences.
