Waste to Resource: Smart 3R Approaches for Sustainable and Resilient Construction
摘要
In line with Industry 5.0’s focus on sustainable and resilient manufacturing, this study explores smart 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) approaches to transform construction waste into valuable resources, enhancing both sustainability and operational resilience in the construction sector. While 3R practices are widely recognized for their potential to reduce waste, integrating smart manufacturing technologies, such as digital tracking and predictive analytics, can significantly enhance the efficiency and monitoring of these practices on construction sites. This study utilizes data-driven analysis to assess the effectiveness of 3R practices and proposes technology-enabled solutions for sustainable construction waste management. The findings reveal that only 65% of construction workers currently follow 3R principles in waste disposal, indicating significant room for improvement. The results underscore the potential of 3R practices to improve resource efficiency and reduce environmental impact, directly contributing to Industry 5.0 goals of creating resilient, sustainable manufacturing systems. This research advocates for policy changes and technological adoption in construction waste management, paving the way for a future where construction waste is minimized and resources are maximized through smart, sustainable practices.
